Bill Hogarth's idea of a Saturday walk up Blencathra via Sharp Edge seemed a good one when it was first mooted. On the day, in the damp mist (and hail at one point) it wasn't quite as attractive. Nevertheless, 11 Fellfarers and friends negotiated the damp and slightly greasy edge with care to gain the summit. The ridge was followed along to Knowe Crags and back before returning via Scales Fell. The pub at Scales was closed (on Saturday afternoon?) so an apres walk drink was had in the Sportsman's at Penruddock. Thanks to Bill for the walk.
Below left was taken by Scales Tarn looking up to Sharp Edge, and below right on the edge itself. Richard, Neil (behind), Eve, Hugh, and Frank (plus Sally the dog) are on the tricky (in the damp) sloping ledge and gap.
Bottom left shows the group on Knowe Crags: from left to right - Hugh, Val, Colin, Richard, Frank, Bill, Alan, Neil with Eve behind, and Clare, with Mick behind the camera. Bottom right was taken by Colin on the way down looking into the watery afternoon sun..

A walk over Dow Crag and the Old Man started in mist but cleared out occasionally on the top to reveal some lovely views over the clouds (below left), plus a Brocken spectre with a glory from Prison Band (below right).

The Mid-week Walk met at Handleys Bridge for Roger Atkinson's seven miles walk over the Howgills. Below left shows the start, with from left to right - Roger, Fred, Gordon, Jean, Frank, David, Clare, Irene, and Graham. Below right has Roger demonstrating his equine prowess.
